See you all here.

After Pet Week our term focus will be the Arts.  Our team will look at a Christmas theme as we are organising the Christmas Float Parade on the 28th of November, followed by a presentation to all whanau in Week 8.  Since we are responsible for the float this year, any help you can give us will be appreciated.

Buddy Classes
Room 12 and 14 are continuing together to be buddy classes with Room 2 and Room 3, [The Hub].  We call these sessions ‘ Tuakana/Teina’ (Big kids helping little kids).  We read, write and develop friendships with our buddies every Friday before lunch for about 20 minutes.  This helps our older students develop leadership skills and gives the younger children great role models and a sense of belonging.
Technology at Makoura  College  - Designcraft
Year 7 and 8 students have had a very successful 3 terms with Technology sessions at Makoura College in Masterton. They will continue every Tuesday, during the morning session beginning in Week 1. The Technology sessions at Makoura cost $76 for the year and a huge thanks to those of you who have already paid this.  Could we please have any outstanding money paid as soon as you can?  This fee can be paid to the office or by automatic payment.  Please be aware that students are required to wear covered shoes at Technology for safety reasons and any long hair must be tied back. If they do not have the suitable footwear, they are not permitted to attend the session and will remain at school.   Mrs MacGregor and I have spoken to the students about these points and we trust they will take responsibility for themselves
Homework, Communications to whanau and Internet use
Homework will continue to be given every week on Tuesday and be expected to be returned by Monday / Tuesday the following week. Your child has a communications book or a folder that will be brought home regularly with information from school to home.  Please remind your child to keep you informed of what is happening at school plus anything else you need to know about.  All homework has been shared on Google docs for those who use the internet at home; otherwise I will continue to give out hard copies each week.
If you would rather any information / school newsletters etc be emailed directly to you – let us know and we will be happy to do this for you. Please remember to download our school app as this has the school newsletters and any up to date information plus alerts sent out on a regular basis.
We will continue to work on Google docs again this term and you will be able to access your child’s work from home plus they all have a Study Ladder password to use at home as well.  All students also have a “Maths Buddy’ password until the end of this year.
Class Blog
Please visit our blog and comment on what you are seeing.  The blog will keep you up to date every week on what’s happening in our class and team, plus any important dates etc.  Our blog address is http://room14cartertonschool2015.blogspot.co.nz/. If you need to drop me a line my email is lkennedy@carterton.school.nz.  Also feel free to pop in at any time.
A reminder to all Year 8 parents and whanau
The Colleges have sent out information regarding enrolments for 2016 and some students do not appear to be enrolled at any of the local colleges.  If you are still undecided, I would suggest you go and have another look at what each college has to offer.  If you have decided, then I would suggest you enrol as soon as possible so we can pass on any relevant information for placing next year.
If you need any other information or want to catch up this term, just let me know or email me.  I will continue to send out a note at the beginning of each week letting you know what is happening for the week so keep an eye out for this each Monday.
Regards
Lesley Kennedy
